Through our work, we know firsthand that we can’t take care of the planet without taking care of ourselves first. The problem? Balancing our physical, mental and spiritual well-being is often easier said than done when we have so much going on. Finding balance takes a little practice, but when we get the hang of it, we’re better equipped to make a positive difference within our communities and, in turn, the world around us.
For us, wellness routines are key to maintaining balance. The list is long and looks a little different for everyone, but by making time to eat nourishing meals, move our bodies, get out into nature and slow down every now and again, we’re able to show kindness to ourselves and the planet.
Andrea Barber, founder of A Few Fun Moves, is someone who embodies this practice and is an inspiration to us. Her online workout platform is dedicated to helping others develop a healthy relationship with movement. She gave us a glimpse into her home life and the routines that help her stay balanced.

Q: Can you talk about your relationship with wellness and how it’s evolved over the years?
In the past, I haven’t always had the healthiest relationship with exercise. My movement used to be driven by performance, but over the years, this focus has shifted, and I now move my body simply to feel good and have fun. As part of my journey to transform this relationship, I launched the AFFM platform. I needed something that would hold me accountable when it came to moving my body for myself, and I hoped to inspire others along the way. My body now leads the way, and I move at whatever pace suits me that day.

Q: When it comes to balance, can you share some of your tips, tools, and rituals that you practice in your everyday life?
- Be mindful of the activities, people, or places that make you feel most like yourself and focus on incorporating these elements into your every day. Whether you carve out small moments during the week or dive in head first on the weekend, make time for the people and things that fill your cup and leave you feeling rejuvenated.
- Get your daily Fun Moves in! A Fun Move = anything that gets you moving, feeling good, and smiling. The best type of movement for you is the one that you enjoy doing. Whether it’s a walk through the neighborhood or baking a sweet treat for a friend, there’s no wrong way to move.
Q: What’s your morning routine?
I’m a morning person and always try to ease slowly into my days. I cherish my alone time as the world wakes up, and begin each day with a hot cup of coffee. After that, I either read for an hour or spend time with the horses at the barn. Recently, horseback riding has been one of my favorite ways to move, and the barn is a peaceful haven away from the city.

Q: What’s your go-to breakfast to energize you for the day ahead?
I’m admittedly not a big breakfast person, but I know it fuels me for the day ahead. To strike a balance here, I usually make something quick and easy. One of my go-to smoothie recipes is ½ cup frozen blueberries, half a frozen banana, a handful of oats, a scoop of protein powder and a cup of water blended together. If it’s the weekend, I might start my day with a tasty pastry like pain au chocolate.
Q: Which book do you always recommend to others?
I recently finished reading The Heart’s Invisible Furies by John Boyne, and it was 10/10. I would highly recommend adding it to your reading list.
Q: How would you describe your style?
Sporty, Fun, and Chill. From working out, bike rides, cooking, walking, or just straight chilling, the clothes I wear need to be able to support all of my favorite Fun Moves. Lately, the InMotion Bike Shorts have been carrying me through all these activities. They’re insanely soft and made from post-consumer garments, meaning that instead of clogging up landfills, old clothes become new ones.

Q: How does sustainability show up in your day-to-day routines?
Commuting on foot or by bike is a great way to get in my daily Fun Moves and embrace a more sustainable lifestyle. When you build sustainability into your daily routines over time, it becomes second nature. Lately, I’ve been loving heading out on bike-packing trips as a way to explore new places but in a more sustainable way.
